The Award
- The intent of this award is to enable students to attend college without accumulating burdensome debt.
- In most cases, the Phillips Scholarship award ranges from $3,000 to $10,000 yearly.
- The award is renewable for up to four undergraduate years provided a GPA on a 4.0 scale of 2.5 is maintained and financial need does not change substantially.
- All grants must be applied to tuition and fees only and will be paid directly to the institution.
- High school seniors entering college and returning college students attending accredited U.S. colleges or universities are eligible to apply for the scholarship
- Awards may only be used for undergraduate study and are limited to those seeking a first bachelor's degree.
- Awards will only be granted to applicants who are permanent residents of New England: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, or Vermont; however, recipients may attend college anywhere in the United States
- While preference is given to applicants from Salem, MA, and a small number of cities and towns north of Boston, all qualified applicants are considered for an award.

Denis Aliu
Northeastern University '06
"I want to thank you for all these years of support. It’s been a real pleasure knowing you. I can’t put it in words how much your help meant to me. Almost four years ago, I entered Northeastern University. As a newcomer to this country, I had limited resources to afford an education such as that offered by Northeastern. But your assistance made it possible. It is thanks to you that now I am proud to graduate from Northeastern University. My desire for excellent academic results was in part influenced by my silent commitment to be and deserve the title of a Stephen Phillips Scholar. In addition, serving the community remains a promise of mine which I will always try to reward.”
