Business Management and Latin American Studies
Jeniffer Vivar Wong
Jeniffer (she/hers/ella) is the Executive Director for the Mayor's Office of Language and Communications Access in Boston. She leads her team to ensure access for persons who speak a language other than English and persons with disabilities in the City of Boston. Jeniffer graduated from the University of Massachusetts Boston with a degree in Business Management and a second degree in Latin American and Iberian Studies. The Phillips Scholarship was instrumental in allowing Jeniffer the ability to further her education and work towards her goal of creating “a City for Everyone.” As a DACA recipient, she struggled to pay tuition out of pocket and attend school. The Phillips Scholarship was one of very few scholarships that were open to non-citizens. Without this scholarship and help from others, Jeniffer's dream of attending and completing college wouldn’t have been fulfilled. In her words, "it is a true honor to have been a recipient of this reputable scholarship." Jeniffer is a DACA recipient from Retalhuleu, Guatemala. As an immigrant and ESL learner, she understands how vital it is to diminish barriers to access for constituents and visitors of the city. In her work, she ensures that all have the resources they need to fully participate and be key decision-makers in their community. She is proud to be a part of the city-wide effort to ensure access to all Bostonians.
