Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics

Kobi Okpoti

*2023 Service Spotlight* Born and raised in Nsawam-Addoagyiri, Ghana before moving to the US as a teenager, Kobi knows first-hand how impactful it can be when there are problems with electricity, transportation, and lack of adequate medical equipment. He has always wanted to become an engineer to help solve these critical infrastructure issues. At Fairfield, Kobi majored in Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics, with a concentration in Aerospace, and he graduated summa cum laude. There, Kobi was active with the National Society for Black Engineers, which places a high importance on giving back to the community, such as through a mentoring program for aspiring engineers in high school. Kobi also participated in a special project aimed at inspiring students from underrepresented backgrounds to take an active role in improving sustainability in their communities and consider careers in STEM.  Kobi has worked part-time as an engineer at Medtronic, where they aim to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life. Moving forward, Kobi will continue to serve the community through mentoring and is looking forward to beginning his MBA program at Fairfield this fall.
